Two Chennai railways stations get X-Ray baggage scanning system

CHENNAI: Southern Railway has upgraded the X-Ray baggage scanning system (X-BIS System) at Chennai Central and Chennai Egmore Railway stations as part of the efforts to enhance security.Installed at the VIP entry of Central and Egmore railway stations, the scanners can generate multi-dimensional view of baggage with colour coding on a large-sized screen and can also trigger auto alert if suspicious items, including explosives, are detected.The double screen display will enable reliable inspection and in-depth scrutiny of tightly packed or wrapped luggage also.The machines can handle 300 to 500 bags per hour and can reduce queues, according to a press release.Similar machines will be installed at major railway stations like Tambaram, Chengalpet, Perambur, Tiruvallur, Arakkonam and Katpadi in a phased manner.
